918 Mary and Peter Part Two

By bird_lovegod | 29 June 26 03:30pm | Good Deeds

From Savers we went on to Boots, looking for a baby bottle. We discovered the baby things are upstairs, I immediately felt out of place, ‘where’s the baby bottles’ I asked a random lady, feeling like a voice crying in the wilderness. She pointed us to the shelves, and I watched as Mary, for the first time of her motherhood, looked at the array of things for her baby, and had the ability to own some of them. She picked out a box of bottles, hardly able to believe that she was allowed to spend the £18 necessary. I kept having to reassure her that it was OK, the money was donated by people for this very reason, £1 a week, and besides, it was Gods money anyway, and she and Peter were Gods children. She looked at the pretty baby clothes, and chose a little trouser set, packet of sleep suits, a few items for her friends’ little girl, a Peppa Pig blanket. The delight of being able to shop for her baby was obvious, and natural, and maternal, and to this point, denied and inaccessible and unavailable.

Her basket full, we went to the checkout, bought the good things, and walked back up towards Orchard Square. I gave her the number for Ethical Much, 07535 670 581, and reassured her she could get in touch and ask for help. I told her about Baby Basics charity, and that she should get in touch with them as well. I will do the same. She needs a pram, and many many things, and I said I will ask around for her.

Readers… Maybe you can help?
