840. I seriously wonder

She texted in and phoned and was in a bit of a state. Ethical Much is like a last port of call for her, an only port of call I think, and when I shop for her I try to get as much as I can and the best I can, but I do wonder, is there an end game to this? Is this what it is, just helping the people who ask, bringing them their bags of shopping, the only times they ever actually have bags of shopping is when I deliver them. Will they ever change? Will they ever become gainfully employed? No, I really don’t think they will. So this service is like what? A poverty alleviation service, a bit of pain relief, in the chronic suffering of their lives. I don’t know how to feel about that. One one hand, sad, that this is not going anywhere, that they are not, this lady at least, going to ever change really. I think that’s a reasonable expectation. Unless she is changing, but slowly, to slowly to notice. I don’t know. It’s not about changing people. It’s just about pain relief, a little temporary pain relief. That’s ok. I can live with that.
