The pigs are growing and more have been purchased. And with them hope, and community cohesion and collective purpose and shared responsibility. Poverty rarely brings out the best in people, easy to fall into selfishness, individual gain, individual survival, the seeing of others as competition. Bringing a group project, the raising of pigs, for the benefit of the village, is a matter of more than meat, or income, it’s a social intervention for the good.
